Course Description: Meditation is a powerful tool for self-care, cultivating presence, and clarifying the lens through which we perceive ourselves and the world. Through this clear seeing, we can deepen our connection to ourselves, enrich our lives, and nurture meaningful relationships with others. Yet, as fruitful as the practice can be, starting and maintaining a meditation practice often comes with challenges.
This course is designed for those new to meditation or those with some experience who are seeking greater support. Together, we’ll explore the foundational teachings of mindfulness meditation in a supportive community. With guidance, practice, and encouragement, we’ll find stability amidst the challenges of life and learning something new.
What to Expect Each Week:
Each session is thoughtfully designed to build a foundation in mindfulness practice and create a supportive environment for growth:
Introductory Talks: Brief teachings on key aspects of mindfulness meditation:
Week 1: foundation (defining mindfulness and mindfulness of body and breath)
Week 2: thoughts
Week 3: emotions
Week 4: metta
Practice Together: Guided meditation in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Community Connection: Time for questions, reflections, and shared insights.
Whether you’re beginning or seeking to deepen your practice, this course offers a space to discover and cultivate solid ground—both on and off the cushion.
Dana: During the daylong, there is an opportunity to offer a financial donation to Angela as part of the Buddhist practice of dana (the practice of giving and receiving). All offerings are gratefully received and support the continuation of the Buddha’s teachings. ANGELA LUCIA DANA (DONATION)
Bio: Angela Lucia came to meditation in 2017 through the teachings of Kevin Griffin after beginning her journey of recovery from addiction. Meditation and the teachings of the Buddha have been instrumental in helping her to deepen her healing and increase her ability to move through the world with more compassion for herself and for others. She believes that the lessons learned through recovery and the Buddhist teachings can support all beings on their journey to experience less suffering and find more freedom. She enjoys retreat practice and attended the month-long retreat at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in February 2024. Angela is training in the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, graduating in January 2025.
Since moving to the Nevada County area in 2023, Angela has been participating at Mountain Stream, helping out at events hosted by the Community Building Team and hosting Open Temple Friday. She is also a founding member of the Recovery Dharma group Room to Breathe, which holds space every Friday evening.
