Course description: Meditation can be a very helpful practice for taking care of ourselves, for being more present, and for noticing and clarifying the lens through which we see ourselves and the world. This clear seeing helps us to develop a deeper connection to ourselves, our lives, and those that we come into contact with. With all of these potential fruits of practice, it is also often challenging when we begin and to continue.
Aimed towards those who are new to meditation practice or have a practice and are interested in getting more support, this course will explore introductory teachings of mindfulness meditation. In the support of community, we will practice sitting meditation, and in the midst of the challenges of life and learning new things, find solid ground.
Each class will contain:
Short introductory talks on aspects of mindfulness meditation
An opportunity to practice mindfulness together in a supportive and welcoming environment
Space for questions, reflections, and sharing
Dana: During the daylong, there is an opportunity to offer a financial donation to Angela as part of the Buddhist practice of dana (the practice of giving and receiving). All offerings are gratefully received and support the continuation of the Buddha’s teachings. ANGELA LUCIA DANA (DONATION)
Bio: Angela Lucia came to meditation in 2017 through the teachings of Kevin Griffin after beginning her journey of recovery from addiction. Meditation and the teachings of the Buddha have been instrumental in helping her to deepen her healing and increase her ability to move through the world with more compassion for herself and for others. She believes that the lessons learned through recovery and the Buddhist teachings can support all beings on their journey to experience less suffering and find more freedom. She enjoys retreat practice and attended the month-long retreat at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in February 2024. Angela is training in the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program, graduating in January 2025.
Since moving to the Nevada County area in 2023, Angela has been participating at Mountain Stream, helping out at events hosted by the Community Building Team and hosting Open Temple Friday. She is also a founding member of the Recovery Dharma group Room to Breathe, which holds space every Friday evening.
